The Mitchell Trap Club will host the Fall State 4-H Shoot September 10-11, 2016 in Mitchell, S.D. Youth qualify by participating in a qualification match in their home county, and then registering for the shoot by August 31st.

Registration & Participation

Qualification and registration is handled through the 4-H shooting management program, facilitated by the 4-H youth program advisor or the county shooting sports coordinator. Counties will be invoiced after the event takes place.

  • Beginners may participate in Trap (50 targets) and sporting clays (30 targets). The registration fee for trap is $8 and for sporting clays $6. If there is room, beginners may try skeet for fun, the cost will be $8.
  • Juniors may participate in Trap (100 targets) and sporting clays (30 targets). Trap registration is $16 and sporting clays $6. There is no official skeet competition for juniors, but if there’s room, they can shoot for fun, the cost will be $8.
  • Seniors may compete in trap, sporting clays and skeet. Trap registration (100 targets) is $16, sporting clays (50 targets) is $12, and skeet (50 targets) is $8.
  • Shotgun participants do not sign up for a specific time or day, just a registration placeholder, to help the trap club plan. Competition will be open at 8:00 am on Saturday. Shooters must check in by 3 p.m. if they wish to shoot competitively on Saturday. Competition will open at 8:00 am on Sunday. Clay and skeet shooters must check in by 10 am, and trap by Noon in order to participate. Flights are scheduled on a first come, first served basis.
  • Muzzleloading is open to junior and senior participants only. Registration is $4. Targets will be shot at 25 yards. The course of fire will be 10 shots on the bullseye target, 5 shots on the bottle novelty target and 5 shots on the animal novelty target. Muzzleloading will have a relay on Saturday at 2 pm, and one on Sunday at 9 am. More will be added if participation exceeds the firing points available.
