Friend of 4-H Spotlight-Amy DuVall Back »

In the fast paced world that we live in it is sometimes hard to find that “extra time” to offer oneself as a volunteer. That is why it is a privilege to talk about one of South Dakota’s Friend of 4-H recipients.  I think it was said best by Calvin Coolidge.  He stated that no person was ever honored for what he received.  Honor is given by what he gave.  Amy DuVall is this year’s Edmunds County Friend of 4-H, however her commitment goes beyond the county level.

On the local level, Amy served as a 4-H leader for nine years.  She was in charge of the Achievement Days Concession Stand as chairman for 2 years.  The concession stand was taken over by 4-H parents to help fund the local 4-H program.  She organized the workers and ordered all the supplies.  She was in charge of preparing the food, as well as keeping track of expenses.  Amy was the president of the local Leader’s Association for 4 years.  She volunteered to help with the “Project Day” program by buying supplies and teaching a class to the 4-Hers in attendance.  She has served on the Extension Board for one year as a representative for the Mina Area and served on the interview committee for the Four County 4-H Program Advisor position.

Amy took volunteering to the next level by being a 4-H Camp Representative for several years.  She represented Edmunds County at the North Central 4-H Camp at Richmond Lake. She served as the president for this organization for several years.

Amy is willing to go above and beyond to help in any way needed and was honored recently for these contributions as “Friend of 4-H”.
