Amanda Dean, 4-H Youth Council Member

Name: Amanda Dean

Age/Grade: 18, Senior (12th Grade)

Years in 4-H: 10 years

How many years have you been on youth council? 2 years

Why did you decide to join youth council?

I decided to join youth council because it gives me a chance to expand my horizons throughout the 4-H program. Several of my cousins served on youth council before me and all of them encouraged me to join as well. When I saw how much fun they had and how they were given the opportunity to lead others, I knew that was something that I would want to be a part of. 4-H has offered me so many great opportunities and being on youth council gives me the chance to give back to this program by helping and being a leader to others. Being on youth council has given me the opportunity not only to build my confidence and leadership skills, but also to help others do the same.

What is something you are looking forward to with youth council this year?

I’m looking forward to the Teen Leadership Conference because we get to see everything we’ve worked so hard to plan all year come together into a fun filled week of meeting new friends and having new experiences.

What is your favorite 4-H project area? Why?

My favorite 4-H project area is either sheep or swine, I’ve been showing pigs for three years and showing sheep for nine years. Showing animals has helped me learn to be more responsible and has taught me that hard work pays off.

Why should 4-H members join youth council?

4-H members should join youth council because it gives them a chance to step out of their comfort zone and try something new while having fun. You get to meet new people and create new friendships that last a lifetime.
