Andrew Mairose, 4-H Youth Council Member: Shaping the future of SD 4-H Back »

Name: Andrew Mairose

Age/Grade: 17, Junior (11th grade)

Years in 4-H: 9 years

How many years have you been on youth council? This is my first year on youth council.

Why did you decide to join youth council?

I decided to join Youth Council because I had two sisters who had served on Youth Council previously and they both insisted I join. 4-H has given me many opportunities over the past 9 years so I wanted to give some of my time back to 4-H. I thought Youth Council was the best way to do that.

What is something you are looking forward to with youth council this year?

I have attended three Teen Leadership Conferences (TLC) and have enjoyed every one. I look forward to helping plan and carry out another successful TLC event. I am also excited to get more youth involved in shaping the future of SD 4-H.

What is your favorite 4-H project area? Why?

My favorite project is Shooting Sports. I started archery as soon as I joined 4-H and have not missed a year since. I enjoy it because I am always improving and overcoming challenges every week; there is always something I can do better. I also like the camaraderie of shooting sports. As a beginner, there were older kids and instructors always willing to help. Now that I am a senior member, I can give advice to the beginners.

Why should 4-H members join youth council?

Even though I am just starting my Youth Council journey, I am confident that I have the ability to help grow 4-H by working alongside a talented group of peers. This opportunity is available to other 4-H teens as well.
