Becca Tullar, SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Program Advisor - Brown County

Name: Becca Tullar

Title: SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Program Advisor - Brown County

Years in SDSU Extension: 8 years

What is your favorite part about working for SDSU Extension 4-H?

I learn something new every day! I work with some great people that inspire me to be a better Advisor each day! I have a great county, with some truly passionate people in the Brown County 4-H Program and Community that make coming to work fun and challenging!

If you could give one piece of advice to a 4-H member what would it be?

To remember that 4-H is not simply about the ribbons or other awards that you receive. It is about the relationships that you build, the challenges that you overcome, stepping outside of your comfort zone to try something new, and becoming a role model in your community. 4-H’s motto is making the best better, I believe that this is a challenge to everyone that is involved in the 4-H program. We should always strive in bettering whatever we are involved in and leaving it better then what we found it.

What does true leaders mean to you?

A true leader wants nothing more than to make people stand on their own, as leaders. Instead of trying to blind us with his or her brilliance, a true leader reflects our own light back to us, so that we may see ourselves anew.

What are some hobbies and interests you have?

I love spending time with my family and friends. I love to spend time outdoors. I love to read, cook, listen to music and drink coffee. I love to laugh!

What has been your proudest moment as an advisor?

I don’t know if I have one proud moment. Being a 4-H Advisor, I get to work with different types of people and what makes me the proudest is watching them succeed at something. Whether it be, leading a meeting, presenting a public presentation, completing a robotics course, or coming to the fair for the first time and receiving their first ribbon. Success is different for everyone and I am blessed to be a part of an organization that allows me to see and be a part of so many success stories!

What is a unique or outstanding program you offer in the counties you serve?

One of the most recent programs that I offer and am proud of is our science week during the summer. We started doing this day camp a couple of years ago and it is something that I look forward to planning. We offer different science based sessions and partner with other community businesses and organizations to provide youth information about the science industry to hopefully excite them about it.

What is your personal motto?

My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive, and to do so with some passion, compassion, humor and style. There’s no need to be perfect to inspire others. Let people get inspired by how you deal with your imperfections.

If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?

I would love to be able to fly! I think about all the beautiful things you would be able to see!
