Jensina Davis, 4-H Youth Council Publicist

Name: Jensina Davis

Age/Grade: 17, Senior

Years in 4-H: 9 years

Do you hold an officer position on youth council? If yes, what position? Yes, publicist

How many years have you been on youth council? 2 years

Why did you decide to join youth council?

I decided to join youth council because I thought it would be a great leadership opportunity and my friends from National 4-H Conference and States’ 4-H Outbound Exchange talked very fondly of their experience on youth council so I figured I’d give it a try!

What is something you are looking forward to with youth council this year?

I’m really looking forward to planning a great Teen Leadership Conference (TLC), promoting 4-H and youth council, and spending time with my youth council family! I’m excited for TLC as we have an exciting theme picked out and there’s always really unique opportunities offered and great friends are made.

What is your favorite 4-H project area? Why?

My favorite 4-H project area is Public Presentations because it has built my confidence and inspired me to research topics I never would have otherwise. Without this experience, I wouldn’t be anywhere near as comfortable speaking in front of people as I am nor would I have pursued opportunities like Youth Council that have enriched my life immensely.

Why should 4-H members join youth council?

4-H members should join youth council because it is an amazing opportunity to share your ideas and make a difference for other youth and your community. Whether it’s planning TLC or the statewide community service project, everyone on the council brings a unique idea to the table and comes together as a team. Being on youth council has helped build my leadership skills in every way and it’s great to be able to work with everyone to create leadership opportunities for other youth. Not only that, but youth council is really like a second family and I’ve made some of my best friends through this experience. If applying for youth council seems intimidating, I encourage everyone to take a leap and try it, because you won’t regret it!
