SDSU Extension will host Hazardous Occupation Safety Training in Agriculture (HOSTA) training on May 25 and 26, 2017 at the American Legion Hall in Phillip.

The US Department of Labor Hazardous Occupations Order in Agriculture regulation prohibits 14-15 year olds from operating farm tractors and attached powered equipment unless the youth has successfully completed an approved safe tractor and machinery operation training program. 12-13 year olds cannot take the driving portion of HOSTA, but are welcome to participate in the classroom portion. 16-18 year olds are not required to complete the driving portion, but are welcome for the training.

The first day will include demonstrations safety in agriculture, including tractor, PTO's, electrical, and working with pesticides, as well as a written test. The second day will focus on the driving requirements, and will also include a test. Completion of all of the above with passing scores is required to receive the USDOL Certificate of Completion.
