The Jump$tart Teacher Training Model focuses on a learner-centric approach to build teachers' confidence. This initiative emphasizes the instruction of personal finance concepts, information, and behavior so that teachers have the tools and confidence to implement positive financial management in their own lives - and then to transfer that knowledge to their own students in the classroom. Past research has found that teachers who attended a J$ Teacher Training program increased their knowledge necessary to effectively teach their students about personal finance increased from 38% to 80%. Not only will this program assist teachers in their own personal financial lives, they can then transfer that knowledge to their students who will then make more sound financial decisions in the future.
The largest deviation from the original Model is that we will be testing the program in an online environment. Resources needed to complete the project are already available and no additional funds will be needed. The key contact for the project will be Dr. Carrie Johnson (former SDSU Extension Family Resource Management Specialist).
