BROOKINGS, S.D. - It's almost time for the South Dakota State Fair!
Keep up with 4-H'ers from your county and across the state during the 2018 South Dakota State Fair by visiting iGrow, where results and photos will be posted daily.
This year, more than 3,000 4-H members from across South Dakota are expected to enter more than 17,000 exhibits during the fair held Aug. 30-Sept. 3, 2018 in Huron.
"South Dakota 4-Hers from across the state showcase their hard work, leadership and public speaking skills during the State Fair," said Amber Erickson, SDSU Extension 4-H youth development field operations coordinator. "Our youth are the future. I encourage all fairgoers to visit the Nordby Exhibit Hall to meet 4-H members, their families and the volunteers who support them."
The expansive Nordby Exhibit Hall features much more than static exhibits. It hosts several 4-H events like Special Foods demonstrations, public speaking presentations, Fashion Review and Performing Arts.
"4-H's project areas are as diverse as the youth the organization serves," Erickson said. "From livestock exhibits to robotics, sewing, woodworking, photography, the list goes on - and you can see most of what 4-H offers, firsthand at the South Dakota State Fair."
Erickson added that State Fair is an excellent place to see 4-Hers, as young as 8, polishing their public speaking skills.
"Through judging, demonstrations and presentations 4-H members develop presentation and communication skills they will use well into their adult lives," Erickson said.
